The Toastmasters Educational Programme - Communication and Leadership tracks

The educational programme is at the heart of a Toastmasters club. It is divided into two tracks: one Communication and the other Leadership. These are not mutually exclusive. Indeed it is recommended that you participate in both tracks simultaneously.

When you become a member of Toastmasters International you will be sent a joining pack. This includes the two manuals to get you started in both tracks: the Competent Communication manual and the Competent Leadership manual.

Communication Track

Members working in this track learn and practice communication skills.

Competent Communicator (CC)

To be eligible for the Competent Communicator award, a member must have completed the Competent Communication manual.

This manual, which has 10 speech projects, is the first step in the communication track. It helps develop your speaking skills one step at a time. Every projects builds upon what you learned in the preceding project. As you prepare and present each project speech you will learn the importance of organisation, how to use body language and voice to convey your message, select the right words and use visual aids. You also learn how to speak persuasively and inspire others. An evaluator will give you feedback on each speech you present, helping you to improve.

For a list of the projects go to https://easy-speak.org/kb.php?mode=article&k=101

To apply for the award, supply the information required in the Application Form in the Competent Communication manual to a Club Officer who will submit it online to World Headquarters. If a Club Officer is unable to submit the application online a form can be downloaded here and emailed, faxed or posted to World Headquarters. You will receive a Competent Communicator Certificate and, if you wish, World Headquarters will send your employer a letter about your achievement. If this is your first Competent Communicator award, you will also be sent two Advanced Communication manuals of your choice free of charge.
