Welcome

Welcome to Tracy Toastmasters! We are a fun bunch! Not only will you learn how easy public speaking can be, as Toastmasters helps even shy people break out of their shells; but you will learn invaluable leadership skills-- laughing a lot in the process! You will find it easy to adapt to getting up earlier on Fridays, and your career life will flourish along with your personal life, because communication is the basis for all of our relationships. So come for the coffee, fellowship, and laughter, and stay for the invaluable personal growth.

Tracy Toastmasters has thrived for 30 years but our attendance has been down. We need some help from YOU! There is an old song about starting over when you've fallen: You pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Start all over again.

Black Bear Diner is likely our best option for our morning meetings as Huckleberry's (our morning home for 30 years when it was Perko's) is now first come first serve. Although that may work at 6:30 am, it's not a guaranteed spot, and the best way to grow in Toastmasters is to meet in person to help those that are not comfortable presenting in public. Zoom isn't ideal as audience members/viewers the impression that you have good eye contact unless you are looking directly into the lens. And as the speaker, looking into the lens doesn't let you see the reaction (to guage if people are laughing or nodding their heads, etc.).

We really need to build our numbers to get you all coming in person when we have a place to meet again. Our best option is to meet at a restaurant that serves breakfast and they all ask that we bring in at least $100 in purchase power to open their doors, whether it's Huckleberry's or Black Bear Diner.

Our other option we just started mid June is that we've started an evening meeting to work for those who just can't break away in the morning. We are meeting the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month at Astoria Senior Living, @1960 W. Lowell Avenue in Tracy, at the southeast corner of Corral Hollow. If the parking is tight, feel free to park on the street (around the corner off E. Lowell on Promenade Circle). You'll need to knock after signing into the facility, and ask for the conference room "For Toastmasters". You may run into some residents that you could invite into the meeting, but we're just inside to the left at the end of that first small hallway. We hope to see you at either meeting!

Until then, here's our invitation (or the shortcut that drops you straight in at http://tinyurl.com/ZoomingwithTracyToastmasters) and here's the official invitation:

Deborah Littleton is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

As soon as you turn around, things are different yet again as we can't meet @ Black Bear Diner until our membership #s have increased and people are coming in person (ordering breakfast). We are going virtual again for the time foreseeable future at Tracy Toastmasters morning meetings.

What I'd like to impress upon you is that this is a step backward in the growth for those that are not comfortable presenting in public. Zoom doesn't give audience members/viewers the impression that you have good eye contact unless you are looking into the lens. And as the speaker, looking into the lens doesn't let you see the reactions--if people are laughing or nodding their heads, etc.--so we really need to build our numbers to get you all coming in person when we have a place to meet again.

We met for 2 weeks at Black Bear Diner when they noticed something wasn't adding up (meaning their cash register). The shift upervisor came up to me when I had packed up  and said that we needed to have at least $100 in food purchases to be able to meet there. Perko's had been letting it slide since we had been meeting there for 30 years, as it's taking a bit of time to rebuild the in-person meetings.

We had 2 meetings without enough people coming in to meet in person so we will have to build up some steam and get members excited about attending in person. We're in membership building mode and if you can bring in a friend, I will pay for your cup of coffee or another drink in I.O.U.s (meaning we will add them up and I will owe you when we start meeting in person again).

Until then--or when Perko's reopens as Huckleberry's and we can meet in the back room again, hopefully by summer of 2023. It sounds weird to say that right now. I will be paying for your drink(s) (hopefully you bring in more than 1 guest!) when we meet again in person

Until then, here's our invitation (or the shortcut that drops you straight in at http://tinyurl.com/ZoomingwithTracyToastmasters):

Oh, boy. It was our last day in Perko's Café! We've been there since 1992, with one or more small detours to IHOP when Perko's had remodeled. If you look at our Facebook pics, there is a long storied historical look at our club, and the members coming, going, and sometimes returning. I was able to speak to the first presdient from when we chartered in 1992. He's got eyesight challenges and can't sit in the car long enough to get here, but boy, we spent a nice time on the phone talking about how they started out--with some of the former members such as himself that had been members of the club that opened in the 1950s and gave it a go on Saturdays for maybe 10 years....Eeerily called Tank Town Toastmasters, which had been a dream of mine to start an evening club by that name for the commuters that want to better their work skills. So we had a great chat--discovering how small Tracy really is, as Mike and his wife Donna had an insurance company in the RE/MAX offices that I was working in in the late 90s.

We have had a hard time recapturing members that have been sliding away, but today, we had one returning 2nd time visitor, Eswari Suda who wants to join, and Deanna McInroy whom I finally realized we just can't get her to join, as her boss wants her to start work at 7:00 am our time (10:00 in Canada) and she was very upset today, only able to verbalize in the chat about it as she's got disabilities that make her nonverbal. She hasn't been able to send back the application and the signs have pointed to us not relying on getting her to sign up, so I voiced that to her today--that she can just visit when she has time. And then Praveena who hadn't been here since maybe June or July came into the Zoom meeting about a half an hour late and committed to her icebreaker next week. So before she had entered, I was taking the tine to look over Pathways with Eswari.

It was a good meeting, but we found out from our server Sherry, that Perko's is closing Tuesday 9/6 instead of 9/11. So I took a selfie with Sherry, and had them pull our "Toastmasters meets here" plaque as we will be meeting in Black Bear Diner for the time being. It will either be temporarily until Perko's (rebranding as Huckleberries) reopens the banquet room for us mid-2023--or permanently. It's been a long stretch at Perko's!

So please come on down as our current/previous members to Jorge's El Tapatio, and drink a toast to Tracy Toastmasters with either a margarita or a mockerita! 30 years means longevity! Let's keep it going at Black Bear, starting next Friday, bright and early at 6:30 am. You can get there right off I-205 from Mountain House, or it's nestled in off Grant Line. We hope to see you at the celebration and back at our club--rising from the ashes of COVID with the bears that will great you on the way in!
