Message from the Division Director

It's my great privelege and honour to be Bass Division Director for 2018-19, and my role is to support all members and clubs in the Division by supporting our Area Directors, and through them reaching out to any club or member who needs or wants my  support.

I am a long term member of Toastmasters, who has achieved much and served in all Club Officer roles and many District roles, and my tagline is: 'We serve ourselves best by serving others' and quickly adopted the four core values of Toastmasters International namely Integrity, Respect, Service and Excellence.

As my tagline suggests, I am here to serve the member, club, area, division and district and endeavour to do this with integrity, respect and excellence in all I do

This term their are exciting things happening throughout District 73, with new initiatives and plans. Like you in your clubs it all starts for me too, with Success Plans.

Success comes through team work, cohesiveness and collaboration. In the Division we have very strong clubs and and a couple of clubs that need our collective support, as we are all in this together. My Division Vision for 2018-19 is that all clubs will be at charter strength (20) or a Net Gain of five (5) by 30th June 2019. To reach this visionary outcome, we will create a new high for the division, and hopefully do it together, and achieve Distinguished or better Clubs, Areas and Division.

There are many terrific leaders in Bass Division, who have done the hard yards, achieved goals, coached clubs and mentored new members, to empower us to learn, listen and lead.

Now it's our turn, along with them to build on the Bass Division Legacy, and create our high performing Division; high performing clubs;, and high performing members.

I wish you all the success you deserve. Enjoy the journey.

David A Hughes DTM

The easy-Speak software allows Toastmaster clubs to automate their meeting planning and to track and support members' development. It provides a full data management system, automating the agenda and freeing the VPE's time to do what is important - support and encourage the members.

The system also gives a full web-site to each club - much of which is updated automatically as meetings are planned or club officers change. There is a large menu of pre-prepared Toastmaster content available and it is all controlled by the current club officers - who may easily add or change content or re-arrange the pages, using drag-and-drop.

The system is available to all UK and Ireland clubs through their website: http://toastmasterclub.org
The system is also available to all mainland Europe clubs through their website http://tmclub.eu
Clubs from other Districts may use the software, without charge, through this site.

Give your club officers the information to support club members, automate the boring administration and free their time to talk with the membership.

Do you currently have instant visibility of every member's progress?
Can you plan a meeting and produce the agenda in just a minute?
easy-Speak gives you this - and more.

Speaking Tips

Everyone in a Toastmasters meeting was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced programme allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment.

  • A typical club has between 20 to 40 members who meet either weekly, biweekly or monthly. An evening meeting normally lasts around 90- 120 minutes.
  • There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations, pointing out the strengths and suggesting improvements. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Members also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop their leadership skills.
  • We learn through the Toastmasters Pathways learning experience, an exciting, flexible and interactive way to develop your skills and help others in your club develop theirs. Pathways helps you learn communication and leadership skills that you need to succeed. It gives you:

    • The opportunity to build  up to 300 unique competencies
    • 10 specialized learning paths to choose from
    • Online content, so that you can learn anytime, anywhere
    • Real-world, transferable skills

One thing that you'll love at Toastmasters meetings is the applause. At first you'll be applauded for your effort; later you'll be applauded for your skill.
