Tribute to Lorna Christofis
Tribute to Lorna Christofis
--- This page is still a work in progress. Contact info@vtoast.com if you have more information to contribute for this page ---

This page is dedicated to Lorna Christofis.

She lost her battle against cancer after courageously fighting it for almost 2 years. She passed away in the early morning of 3rd November, 2010.
Lorna was the President of Victoria Toastmasters Club for the year 2007-08. She has been a member since 1991.
To many of us from Victoria Toastmasters, Lorna was a dedicated member, a mentor, an advisor, a responsible leader, but most of all, a dear friend.

A memorial service for Lorna will be held:

on the 29th of November 2010
in St John's Cathedral
at 1pm promptly.

At Lorna's request, let it be a colorful remembrance so please wear something bright

NOTE: In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to WWF. Lorna's family has set up a WWF Donation Page.

Lorna, we miss you.

Christmas Party 2007 when Lorna was the President. Her presence always added positive energy to everyone around her.

Lorna hosting Victoria's 50th Anniversary at Zetland Masonic Hall.

At the end of the term 2007-08, Lorna invited all the Excom members to her house, to celebrate a year of hard works and achievements. It's a pleasure to be a part of your team, Lorna!

Charlie Lang (2005-2006 President):
Quote:
I’ll never forget the vibrancy and colorfulness of Lorna, her smiles, passion and sense of humor. It’s hard to believe that this will have to remain in my memory only and can’t be experienced anymore.

Catherine Florent (past VTC member):
Quote:
Lorna's shimmering character and generosity did bring joy to us all. I still remember the movement and light of her long hair, and the little hairs she'd always try to grab at from her mouth as she was speaking.
Here is a little prayer that makes me think of her as she loved to sing, dance, praise and love:

May today there be peace within.
May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that
has been given to you.
May you be content with yourself just the way you are.

Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to
sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us...

Bye Lorna

Vera Kestury (past VTC member):
Quote:
I had just joined Victoria Toastmasters for a few months when Lorna started her term as the President of the club, and I joined her excom team as the VPE. She's the best President a VPE could ever had.
Our friendship continues outside Toastmasters. She was genuine and attentive. Sometimes she might complain but she always looked at the bright side and searched for solution from there on. This is something I learned from her.

On my birthday earlier this year, Lorna managed to come.

I just saw her last month. It's difficult to think that that was the last time I saw her. But with the energy Lorna had always shown, I am glad that I had the chance to see her at all. To tell her about my stories. To listen to her advice one more time. To say goodbye.

Rest in peace, Lorna.

Amy Chong (past VTC member):
Quote:
She was so near and so close and now she is now rest in peace. It is difficult to think that the last time I met her was on Vera s birthday party. As Flora said, the talk on the ride home was wonderful. She laughed, she joked and she showed her care for others and her passions for life as usual. The last time I heard her voice was over the phone when she asked me whether I would be one her flight to Johannesburg during summer.

Her inspiring speech and mentor advices had given me great encouragement in my growth at toastmaster. I loved her and I miss her too. I will attend her memorial on 29th.

Hope that Lorna rests in peace and happiness in heaven!

Barnabas Chung (2002-2003 President):
Quote:
I am very sad to hear this from Rose Allander about this.
I still remember Lorna who volunteered to help Lingnan University as their Club Mentor.
In Victoria Toastmasters Club, I first met Lorna back in 1999 and she told me that she always slipped away during the table topics in 2000. Well, I encouraged her to try after slipping away for 5 years. Finally, she did try her first table topic in 2001. She also attended my wedding banquet in 2001. I like her smile very much. She was very kind and generous to give me free ride in several occasions including all the way from Tuen Mun (Lingnan University Toastmasters Club) and Sai Kung [co-incidentally also a function of Lingnan University Toastmasters Club] to the downtown where we can get on MTR to go home. She also met my son Aaron who is now 7.5 years old studying at primary two. Lorna did take up lots of challenges such as being the president of VTC and completing an intensive English course so she could teach in tertiary institutes.
Few years ago, she also told me that she suffered from skin cancer but I found that she looked normal and lived happily. Well, she set a very good example to stay strong, happy and positive.
God bless!

I was so sad when I heard the news. Though the acquaintance with Lorna was not too long, it's filled with lovely and unforgettable memories of her vibrant colors, cheerful smile, passionate friendship, kind advice, selfless dedication, enduring love .... Miss you; and rest in peace, Lorna!

Steven Cheong (2001-2002 President):
Quote:
Lorna, you have been a beacon of inspiration to many people and your colourful personality will be greatly missed by all. May you rest in peace.

Michael Cheung (member for over 10 years):
Quote:
I never forget your smiling face and encouraging speech. Whenever problem comes to you, it always seems to be easy. You never look down upon anyone and respect each of us. I think you will enjoy life in a whole new world. May god bless you!

Adrian and Serena Ogle (members between 1983 and 1995):
Quote:
It was through toastmasters that I first met her about 20 years ago I guess. At the time she was clearly looking for ways to develop her confidence and I remember how difficult it was in those days for her to speak in front of a group of people. I'm pretty sure she missed one or two meetings in those early days when she was due to give a speech purely out of fear. Gradually though with the encouragement and support we provided her confidence started to build and it was great to see her develop and grow her speaking and leadership skills. In turn she has clearly provided that same support and encouragement to others.

I am absolutely saddened by this news.
The last time I communicate with Lorna was when she invited me to the VTC 50th anniversary party in May 2008. Because of my biz trip in China, I was not able to attend. She said she was disappointed and wanted to invite me to the club as a guest. That was the last time we communicate and I am really sad to realize that I will never have another chance to come to VTC to hear her speak or joke with her. Like Vincent, life can pass by that fast.

Just went to Lorna funeral which was filled with love and joy. For those of you who didn't go, I especially like reading the following pages in the program. I believe they were written or chosen by Lorna. Pls read the words carefully.

BY COURTESY OF LORNA
A CONTEMPLATIVE POSTLUDE
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am in the softly, falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the field of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush--
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the star shine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I do not die.
