This meeting was a full on success from the word go. It opened with the president inviting the members and guests to volunteer to sing a few lines of their favourite song. The audience was very supportive. Michael Boynton evoked laughter by singing ‘Happy Birthday’ song as his favourite song. Alice Wong’s favourite song is ‘Last Christmas, I gave you my heart……’
The meeting unexpectedly turned out to be an iconic meeting because it had two DTMs present under one roof which is a very rare occurring. Wilson Yau, Area 89, Division G Governor was the invited DTM who was the General Evaluator of the meeting. The pleasantly unexpected guest was a DTM from Australia, Garaham Miller. He was on a holiday in Hong Kong and decided to attend the regular meeting of the club which has the longest History in Hong Kong. He spoke impeccably during the table topic session. His speech demonstrated his prowess on public speaking. In fact Michael Boynton, as the table topic evaluator, created another humourous moment – first Michael praised Graham’s speech and in the area for improvement, he mentioned that Graham should give a less perfect speech.
Ben Fung’s table topic speech is also worth mentioning as he entertained the audience with his spontaneity. He emulated the music of Rocky in a very catchy way which won its way to the hearts of the audience immediately.
Another highlight of the meeting worth mentioning is the choice of topics by Rejoy for the table topic session. The topics were appreciated and well received by the audience. Two examples are ‘Not all successful musicians are talented and not all talented musicians are successful.’ This thought provoking topic generated a lot of interest. The use of imagery in another topic was a delight -‘Songs are the cushions on which we relax.’
This multi faceted meeting with a combination of various interesting elements became a memorable meeting . All the members and guests came out with smiles for having gained some meaningful learning through the meeting.
