The Executive Committee for 2015-2016
Michael Bown, ACB ALB, President
Michael has a strong background in education and mentoring and used these skills to further develop in the role of Vice President Education for Trestle Toastmasters in the 2014-2015 year. After a successful year as Vice President Education he was elected to the role of Club President where he is responsible for day to day operations of the club. Michael is excited to develop the club in the coming year and also takes on the role of Division Director for Division A this year where he is responsible for an additional 22 clubs on Southern Vancouver Island and Saltspring Island.
Lisa Jensen, VP Education
While new to Trestle Toastmasters club, Lisa is no stranger to public speaking—she has a strong background in creating and delivering speeches at a corporate level in the fitness and spa industries. Toastmasters is providing a fine whet stone for sharpening her skills in speaking, leadership and governance. Lisa hopes to use what she learns from Toastmasters at her current workplace, the BC Pension Corporation. Her portfolio as VP Education includes scheduling, running the mentorship program, organizing speech contests, assisting new members in the education program and filing for educational awards with Toastmasters International.
Gisele Plourde, VP Membership
A Toastmaster since January 2015, Gisele has become a firm believer in the power of public speaking. Too frightened to get out of the chair and do her Ice Breaker speech, she signed up for the 2015 Evaluation Contest to force herself to the lectern, and two months later won the district title. “All the tools we need to be powerful public speakers are right here in front of us,” she says. “It only takes standing up, practicing, and risking a little.” She hopes to share this enthusiasm with new members in her role as VP Membership.
Vacant, VP Public Relations
Tracy Tian, Treasurer
Tracy Tian joined Toastmasters in January 2015 to overcome a fear of speaking in front of others and found the supportive environment of the club a great place to get out of her comfort zone in order to grow. “I have been facing challenges,” she says, “but I am enjoying the harmonious and supportive environment that Trestle Toastmasters Club provides.” With the great support from her fellow members and mentors, Tracy is gaining skills by learning, practicing, and contributing to the club as the Treasurer.
Cedric Young, A/ Secretary
Julie Mutitt, CC, ALB, Sergeant-At-Arms
Julie has been a member since 2007 and is currently the Sergeant-At-Arms. She joined Toastmasters to help her think faster on her feet and improve her interview skills—Table Topics is perfect for that! “Club members are encouraging, friendly, supportive and understanding,” says Julie. “They are there to step out of their box and improve, and this club is the perfect avenue to do this.” Since joining the club, Julie has become more confident.
After attending her first conference in Nanaimo, Julie was so inspired by other fellow Toastmasters, she decided to step it up a notch and run for President. “Through the support of fellow members, even though you may not think you have all the skills you need, you build yourself up, increase your confidence and have the courage to try new things. That's what the Toastmasters program has done for me.”
D'arcy Sego, Past President
