Dear West Rand Toastmasters and Friends,
We met at Sunset Rock in Doreen Road (a building next to the Dros) last night. We will be meeting there for our next 2 meetings: 17th September 09 our West Rand Club Humorous Contest - and 1st October 09 when we will be hosting the Area Humorous Contest (Sunset Rock has a Bar and we can order food too).
We were spoiled, in a bad way, at our last small venue because we didn’t have to project our voices. We thankfully have the opportunity and need to learn or re-learn that skill to ensure that everyone hears us.
Lloyd de Raay enthralled us as our Toastmaster for the Evening with his theme “Confidence” and walked off with the Best Contribution for the Evening. Michael Molenaar teased our taste buds by sharing his extensive knowledge on wines. Marsha Blake took us back in time to the Cape and a murder mystery. My speech was letting out the secrets about Steve Malan’s days as the lead singer in the Staccatos and more…
Michelle Hartslief gave us tips, written examples and an easy way to put a humorous speech together. Our Table Topics Master was Jack Hartman with topics like “Tell us what you would say to your wife after witnessing your mother-in-law diving off a cliff” and Viv gave us a hilarious and almost believable account of how he would handle the situation. Christine Kuun won the Best Table Topic Contributor. Christine was also our Fines Master and humorously collected piles of money for our club.

Directions to Sunset Rock
If you go along Hendrik Potgieter towards Krugersdorp, you will turn left into Doreen Road (the same road that you turn into to go to the Botanical Gardens) Go past the shopping centre on the left hand side and I think it is the 2nd entrance on your left. It is well signposted 'Sunset Rock’ when you get into the parking go to the right, the hall is on that side and there is parking there.
