Belmont Babblers are members who practice speaking skills in a fun filled, supportive environment every Wednesday noon hour. The Toastmasters International program provides two learning tracks that run concurrently at each member's own pace: communication and leadership.
The communication manual, in ten projects, guides your speech organization, purpose, body movement and gestures, vocal variety, how to research topics, be persuasive, and motivate.
The leadership manual, in ten projects, allows you to receive written evaluation of your agenda roles, mentoring, chairing a special event, etc.
In a typical meeting, there are various agenda roles that members fill, like timer, quote/laugh or inspiration, grammarian, quiz master fun, and you will usually hear a 5-7 minute prepared speech.
If guests wish, they may participate in table topics when members are asked to speak for 2 minutes impromptu to a topic suggested by the table topics master.
The second half of the meeting provides feedback and evaluation of the prepared speech and the table topics speakers. Learn to give and receive feedback by acknowledging each other's stronger and weaker points with suggestions on how to improve. Also, oral reports are given by the grammarian and timer.
Hone your listening and writing skills by writing the meeting recap - it's email distribution keeps the absentee members in-the-loop.
