I put this in the agenda body for a meeting:
Code:
[color=red][size=18][b]It's Valentines Day![/b][/size][/color]

and the apostrophe comes out with a backslash before it, like this:
It\'s Valentines Day!

I've done some web work in the past myself, and dealing with quotes (between input sanitization and conversion to a displayable format) is more than a bit of a pain.

Mal, Paul, perhaps some code can be inserted to replace all (single or double) quote with the appropriate HTML code before being inserted to the DB? I'd think that would eliminate all need for escaping, no?

Hey Daniel, I think the dev team has a few open head counts for in-depth code review on the character encoding topic, including some patching to make it all unicode. Does this sound like a great opportunity for you? Should we consider your post below an official application? ;)
PS: all work on Easy-Speak is very generously compensated with world wide fame, experience (lessons learned) and very kind thank-you emails every now and then.

Kai, I'd love to! Quitting my job isn't an option, but as soon as my kids grow up, or I find someone to replace me as president of the two TM clubs I'm currently running, I'll be happy to help out some more. Smile

Until then, alas, I really don't have time to spare. Of the different options, I'm hoping for a replacement as president first -- the kids have several years yet to go before I'll get any breathing room. Smile
