Timer:
The function of the Timer is to track and log the timings of the various speaking roles for the meeting.
- Confirm that there will be a timing device (stop light) in the room you are participating from.
- Verify you have a functioning Stop Watch (most cell/mobile phones have this capability) and familiarize yourself with it.
- Request Timer’s Report sheet/form in the meeting room prior to the start of the meeting.
- The following roles are to be timed:
- Speaker (Time ranges from 4-6, 5-7, or 8-10 minutes depending onn speech). Find out what speech numbers are being delivered ahead of time.
- Table Topics participants (Time ranges from 1-2 minutes)
- Speech Evaluation (Time ranges from 2-3 minutes)
- Timing will begin with the speaker’s first definite verbal or nonverbal communication with the audience. This usually will be the first word uttered by
the speaker, but would include any other form of communication, such as sound effects, a gesture, a staged act by another person, etc.
- The Green/Yellow/Red lights are to be turned on according to the times noted on the Timer’s Report.
- For Example in a 5 to 7 minute speech:
- A green signal will be displayed at 5 minutes and remain displayed for 1 minute.
- A yellow signal will be displayed at 6 minutes and remain displayed for 1 minute.
- A red signal will be displayed at 7 minutes and will remain on until the conclusion of the speech.
- At the conclusion of each role make sure to turn off the timing devices, log the persons name and time onto the Timer Report sheet.
- The timer may be asked to provide a 1 minute time window for Love Notes to be filled out immediately following the speeches.
- Near the end of the meeting the Timer will be asked by the General Evaluator to give the Timer Report.
Read through each Role, Name and Time logged while also noting whether each person was within the allowed time windows.
