What Our Members and Guests Say

"I learned so much about snow camping tonight, I just might have to try it!"

"One of the reasons we come to Toastmasters is to get feedback. We are alwyas trying to improve.  If you visit us again, you will notice we give compliments and things to work on."

"I joined Toastmasters to get better with how I manage time and how I organize my thoughts when I speak.  I want to be able to advocate for my point of view more effectively with colleagues at work.  Having been in the club a little less than a year now, I've already noticed results with my communication and leadership skills."

"I joined Toastmasters way back in 1995, because I was new to the area and I wanted to meet people.  It was so much fun that I have been participating ever since. Having a captive audience to listen to my stories – what could be better?"

"This club is so friendly - it feels like family. I will definitely be visiting again."

"Coming here is actually relaxing, not stressful! I was so surprised at how much you clap for each other, celebrating even little things."

"The meetings are very structured, which I like, and you start and end on time!  I actually belonged to Toastmasters a long time ago.  I'm thinking about joining again and seeing how rusty I am at giving speeches.  This might be the club to join!"

Toastmasters Mission

The Toastmasters Mission
A statement of shared values

Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:

We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.

Through this mission, each Toastmaster gains a clear understanding of the club's purpose, and the organization as a whole benefits from a shared set of values and goals.

Fear Factor

Fear of speaking Believe it or not, your chances of dying of stage fright are thanksfully extremely slim! You might feel as if you are dying on the stage, but chances are good your audience won’t even notice your wobbly knees and perspiring brow.

The first point to note about fear of public speaking is that it's very common. Even the best speakers were once terrified novices, and some top actors and performers still experience bouts of nerves (strong enough to make the ill in some cases!) before they go on stage.

What the professionals have mastered though is how to manage their nerves and channel that energy productively. The second point to note is that if they can learn such techniques, then so can you.

Here's where Toastmasters can help. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced programme allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. Constructive evaluation is at the heart of the Toastmasters Programme. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will poitn out strengths and suggest improvements.

The third and final point : if you're ready to tackle your fears now, come along to our next meeting and see how the programme works. Talk to our members and hear their stories of how they're overcoming their fears. Guests are welcome at every meeting and can come as many times as they like.
