Why Sandton Toastmasters?

Sandton Toastmasters uses the tried-and-tested Toastmasters method to develop your public speaking, interpersonal communication, management and leadership skills (and of course confidence comes as a by-product). At Sandton, we create frequent opportunities for our members to develop and practice one special skill that has become a hallmark of our club: humour.  We do this in a number of ways, notably holding:

  • a "Roast" where we celebrate the contributions of one individual to the club (typically an ex-president when they leave the club's executive committee). This meeting is usually held in June.
  • an educational session every year on techniques for developing original humour (July)
  • a humourous speech contest every year (August)
  • an outdoor campfire storytelling meeting (December)
The club's membership is highly diverse with members hailing from all corners of South African society and ranging in age from the late teens to the mid 80s. Experience is something we have in abundance!  Guests are always welcome. Why not come and see for yourself.

Great leaders have one thing in common: great communication skills. But one doesn't have to be a world leader to benefit from improving your communication skills.  Even in a work environment, that promotion to management will typically go to the person who communicates better, whether presenting to an audience, motivating a team, or just answering questions off the cuff.

As individuals, we can either curse the unfairness of this insight, or embrace it and turn it to our personal advantage. At Sandton Toastmasters, we choose to embrace it - to work at becoming great communicators and leaders (the two are very-much interlinked). We can guarantee that if you put in an effort as a member of our club, you will greatly improve your communicaiton skills, which will benefit you in all aspects of your life. This is regardless of whether you are already a skilled orator, or are a beginner who becomes completely tongue-tied when speaking to a group of only 5 people.

Sandton Toastmasters Club was established in 1989 and has been producing great public speakers and leaders ever since, including several well known professional speakers. The club is graded as a President's Distinguished club, which is the highest level that a club can achieve, attesting to its consistent quality and ability to produce results.

We are a warm and friendly club and work hard to create a nurturing enviroment at our meetings. Pay us a visit and see for yourself!
