Words cannot begin to express my excitement as Julia Katsivo and myself plan to implement a Speechcraft workshop at Burnhamthorpe Adult Learning Centre starting in October. This school's mandate is to provide upgrading and credit courses to adults with an average age of thirty-five. The individuals in our Speechcraft will generally be single mothers wishing to improve their education for the purpose of developing a career and providing a better life for their children. Both educators and potential employers agree that their lack of confidence in presenting themselves and their ideas is a major obstacle towards future progress.
I cannot think of a single resource more capable of meeting this need than Speechcraft and I'm 'biting at the bit' to get it going. Although not impossible, this project will be very difficult with just me and Julia. We would be so grateful if one or two members could step up and act as an advisor for the participant(s) and perhaps model various roles in a Toastmaster meeting.
Unfortunately there is a catch to volunteering as our single moms need to pick up their children and thus cannot attend evening meetings. Consequently the meetings will be held on a week day probably in the morning.
But if you are able to step up the reward, as a popular commercial once put it, will be PRICELESS!
