Our Blog  (Securely Speaking Toastmasters)
Privacy

I'm not a lawyer, but since Google just notified me that their terms of service and privacy statement is being updated, I figured I would say something about Securely Speaking Toastmasters' privacy rules on this web site, in plain English.  We're probably required to disclose our privacy policy anyway due to some obscure California law.

As the VP-M, I enter the information from your membership form into the Toastmasters International web site.  The TI web site has its own privacy rules, which I won't go into here, except to say that only the information you provided on your form gets posted there, and the contact information you provide is maintained separately on toastmasters.org than here on the Easy-Speak web site.

Easy-Speak is the web site for the Securely Speaking "club" or "chapter" of Toastmasters.  I've entered the same information from your form into Easy-Speak.

By default, the contact information you provided is available to other members of Securely Speaking, but you can change how it appears.  For example, if you choose to make your name, phone number, or email address available to the public, your name will appear in the public (unauthenticated) version of our weekly agenda.  If you choose to hide all of your information from everyone, then not even the weekly Toastmaster will be able to find your contact information on the web site, however they may be able to send you email notifications using the web site without knowing your address.

If you are a Symantec employee, you might be contacted by other Symantec employees using information posted in the Symantec directory (such as your work email address or phone number), and this is outside of Securely Speaking's control, though if you want to attach a note to your profile asking not to be contacted via your work phone or email address, we can add one.

It is our recommendation that you at least make your phone number visible to other members so that you can be contacted in the event of a change in the meeting, or to be reminded to confirm a role you've been assigned.

Finally, if you do not want to be contacted by anyone in the chapter, Easy-Speak does have the capability of disabling all email completely, or being completely "offline" and being contacted through a "computer buddy" that relays the ingormation.  You would not receive notifications of meetings or role assignments except through your "buddy."  These choices are not recommended, but they are options built into Easy-Speak that we could accommodate.
