LAUGHING AWAY THE WINTER BLAHS!

Meeting :  Wednesday, January 16, 2013
In Attendance:  Julie, Kathy, Val, Helen, Chris, Elyanor, Elena, Claudette
Guest : Burton - becomes New Member - Welcome Burton!!

Theme: Laugh away the winter blahs
Word of the day:  Funny Bone - crazy bone; sense of humour

Julie enlightened us about the difference between mens’ and womens’ communication patterns.  Men tend sound more competent through use of a more goal-oriented style in their communication.  They sound more authoritative, and focus more on status which seems to translate into them being more competent.  Women use more relationship building methods, trying not to hurt anyones feelings, etc. and some think this makes them sound less competent.  Could be that because women learn a different style of communication it has continued to hold us back.  Perhaps...a new understanding of communication patterns could improve the viewed competency of women and men.

Kathy used a game she had received for christmas entitled Table Topics, from Chapters .  Volunteers picked their own topics from the deck, Val - question for a psychic; Rueben - which celebrity would he really like to meet - Harrison Ford - me too! but I think for different reasons!; Claudette - temptation hardest to avoid - she doesn;t try to avoid any - why bother!; and Elyanor - which skill she would want training from an expert - wanting to learn how to swim topped her list.

And the winner is:
Table Topic Trophy Winner:  Claudette!  Congratulations!!

Please let me know what kinds of things you would like to see here on the blog.  If you have any submissions for the upcoming, first ever, CTI TechTalkers newletter, I would love to see it!!
