Thanks to all for a successful Open House!

The ACI Toastmasters Club hosted a fun and eventful Open House on November 5th! We were delighted to meet many new people, listen to great speeches, and share our enthusiasm for Toastmasters with our guests.

Our Sergeant at Arms, Felix Oboite, began by welcoming members and guests and giving us a brief safety message. Little did we know at the time that we would actually have to put Felix's instructions into practice later on, when the fire alarm unexpectedly went off! Next, our Joke Master, Naz Aitkulova, made everyone laugh with her fantastic joke! Once the laughter settled down, Naz gave everyone a warm welcome as the club's President.

In the next portion of the evening, members and guests had the pleasure of listening to two distinguished guests. First, Area D29 Director Chris Schwarz gave an inspirational "Toast-a-monial" about how he has benefitted from belonging to Toastmasters. Next, keynote speaker Alex Bandjak gave an inventive and engaging speech titled "Guess Who?" Alex described five characters who benefitted in different ways from joining Toastmasters, and audience members were invited to guess which one was him. He definitely had everyone guessing!

During the next portion of the evening, Apryl Bergstrom was the Toastmaster for a "Mock Toastmasters Meeting." The mock meeting gave guests a taste of a regular Toastmasters meeting, which typically includes prepared speeches, speech evaluations, and an impromptu Table Topics session. During the mock meeting, advanced speaker Diana Lu provided an expressive and entertaining prepared speech about a visit to Vancouver. Although Diana's speech was unexpectedly interrupted by a fire alarm and everyone had to evacuate to the lobby, luckily she was able to complete her speech once everyone was cleared to go back upstairs again.

After Diana's speech, Kewei Zhao led an innovative Table Topics session, where guests did a fantastic job with short impromptu speeches. Afterwards, members and guests voted on their favourite speakers. Big congratulations to Chris and Yolande, our Table Topics winners! Finally, Naz ended the meeting by inviting guests to visit club meetings as often as they would like.

Finally, we would like to give a big thank you to all our volunteers and guests who made this event a success!

Just as a reminder, our next club meeting will be on Monday, November 19th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in #1801, Phipps-McKinnon Building. We hope to see you there!
