The subtitle of this book - "Cellist, Teacher, Legend" - put me on full hagiography alert, and the top line of the acknowledgments did nothing to allay my fears: "First and foremost, I am infinitely grateful to Mstislav Rostropovich for allowing me to undertake the project."
