Feb 20 meeting minutes:

We had our International Speech Contest!!

The Chair person and Toastmaster was Frieda Herron; Frieda provided a briefing explaining the contests logistics.

Jon Greiner was the Chief Judge; he provided the briefing of the Judging Criteria.

Kiran Mohare was the timekeeper,

Thank you to the fellow Toastmasters who acted as judges: Faith Wallis, Kamel Rahmoun, Magdalena Dilimot, Jayakumar Chandroth, Elizabeth Johnston, Djatou Traore, (forgive me if I did not get all the judges names)

There were three participants in the following order:

1st Contestant was Juan Garduno, his speech title was :” Why Failures happen and how to achieve your goals”.  Juan talked about failures, what the cause of the failures were and what to do to avoid them and succeed in achieving our goals.

2nd Contestant was Amy Fischer, her speech title was “Unprepared”. Amy talked about her adventure in Hawaii were she and her sister ended up in a beach with no towels, no water, no money…they could have not been less prepared even if they had planned to.

The 3rd Contestant was Matt Bartusek, his speech title was ”Your story”. Matt talked about being our own authors, the past is recorded and cannot be changed; he challenged us to make the conscious decision of changing our own story.

John Sedig evaluated Juan on his speech and Juan got credit for his speech number seven from the Competent Communicator Manual.

The results of the contest were: 1st Place Matt Bartusek; 2nd Place Amy Fischer, 3rd Place Juan Garduno.

The first and second places get to go to the District Contest, since Amy won’t be able to make it, Juan will get to go along with Matt.

The contest was a great learning experience and the contestants got lots of feedback during the last part of the meeting.

Thank you all!!
