Post Post subject Grammar rules for the plural forms of news and statistics   Posted 05 Dec 17, 13:15    Reply with quote

What are the exact grammar rules for the plural forms of "news" and "statistics"? I've found some resources where they are used both as singular and plural. But Oxford dictionary suggests that "news" can be used on as a singular or you should choose "a piece of news" instead. As for "statistics", it says that it requires plurality always. I asked www.123essay.biz experts and they say it depends on the context. Here are some text I found:

"She used these statistics to prove her boss that she was right."

"The news was astounding."

Is that ok to say so?
